Verizon Class Action Settlement Claim [$100M], Form, Eligibility & Payment Date

Verizon is one of the largest telecommunications companies, where the Verizon corporation has in the recent past claimed to have entered into a $100 million settlement for a class of actions. The class action had been filed on behalf of current and past Verizon clients against whom administrative fees, or “telco recovery charges,” had been prosecuted without their informed requests having been taken into consideration.

The Verizon lawsuit points to issues of consumer transparency relative to advertising practices, especially failing to disclose some fees over and above service charges.

Why is Verizon Facing a Suit from Its Customers?

Customers allege that Verizon failed to disclose all the fees that were added to their advertised plan rates, and this resulted in surprise expenses for customers.Verizon is alleged to have caused customers’ monthly expenses to be overstated by failing to disclose supplemental fees charged to customers beyond its wireless service plans.A proposed settlement fee of $100 million will cater to qualifying customers’ losses due to Verizon’s undisclosed administrative fees.

Who Qualifies to Benefit from this Settlement Fund?

To claim a portion of the settlement, eligible customers would have to be verified as customers of Verizon who utilized postpaid wireless or data plans between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023, and who paid the disputed undisclosed administrative fees.Payments from the $100 million fund will begin early in 2024 and every eligible customer is likely to receive $100, or less depending on the period they have been paying the challenged fees.

One is supposed to fill out a claim form from the official website making sure that terms and conditions presented at the time of application are met before documents are submitted online or by mail before the stipulated date.

Requirements of the Verizon Settlement

For one to be eligible for this settlement, the following are the requirements:

•A person must be a current and former of Verizon customer in the United States,

•Having paid off any administrative fees or ‘telco recovery fees’ from January 1, 2016, to November 8, 2023. 

• postpaid individual consumer wireless service account (Not including prepaid and business accounts)

•be based on the last known billing address with Verizon

•Settlement payments would be released in third quarter 2024. So, the payment date would be updated on the settlement website.

Structure of Settlement Payments

The structure of the settlement payment can be bifurcated as:

1.  Base Payment: Every eligible claimant shall be eligible to receive a standard $15.

2. Monthly Service Bonus: In addition to the base payment for all valid claims, Class Members will also be paid a $1.00 per month for the number of months in which they were charged the challenged fee. If the total is greater than $85, the amount will be capped at $85.

The actual payment amount to each class member will depend on the number of valid claims that are filed. If many people file, the amount of payment may go down, but the fund will still be distributed fairly.

The settlement funds shall be allocated as follows:

1. Electronically: If you provided bank account information, your payment will be made that way 2. By Check If you didn’t give Mij its bank account information  

3. Charitable Donation Any remaining monies shall be sent to a not-for-profit organization.
